WWE RAW "Season Premiere" Results – September 8, 2014

Joan Rivers Tribute

After the match, we head to the announce table and Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler and JBL have their serious faces on. And for good reason. The trio honors the legendary and histarically funny comedian, the late Joan Rivers. They talk about her contributions to WWE over the years and introduce a touching video package, nararrted by Jerry Lawler, that showcases Rivers’ various appearances on WWE programming over the yerars. From there, we head to another commercial break.

Titus O’Neil vs. Adam Rose

When we return from commercial, we see highlights of Slater Gator being beat by Adam Rose and the Bunny on last week’s RAW. From there, we see Titus O’Neil and Heath Slater already in the ring as The Exotic Express accompany Adam Rose as he makes his way to the ring.

The bell rings and here we go. Straight out of the gate, O’Neil takes it to Rose as the commentators try and put over the Bunny at ringside. The fans start “humming” Rose’s theme song as we see the Bunny super-kicking Heath Slater at ringside. Meanwhile, in the ring, a distracted O’Neil turns around right into a “Party Foul” finisher from Rose.

Winner: Adam Rose

After The Match

Rose’s theme hits but is immediately cut off. The Bunny gets in the ring and goes to the top rope. He hits, as the announcers call it, a “Bunny Splash” off the top to O’Neil.

Renee Young Interviews Roman Reigns

Backstage, Renee Young is with Roman Reigns. She asks Reigns what he thinks Orton meant by what he said earlier tonight. Reigns says he doesn’t know but to believe in Reigns, as he cocks his arm, indicating a Superman punch coming in Orton’s future. We head to another commercial break.

Brock Lesnar Video Package & Announcement

A new Brock Lesnar video package airs hyping his dominance as WWE World Heavyweight Champion and promoting his upcoming title rematch against John Cena at the WWE Night Of Champions pay-per-view. After the video package, it is announced that Lesnar will return live on next week’s RAW, which is the Night Of Champions “go-home” edition of the show.

Randy Orton vs. Roman Reigns

After the Brock Lesnar video package and return announcement concludes, Randy Orton’s theme music hits. Out walks “The Viper” to the ring, as our RAW main event, the SummerSlam rematch with Orton vs. Roman Reigns, is up next. During Orton’s ring entrance, we head to a commercial break.

When we return from commercial, Roman Reigns makes his way to the ring. Justin Roberts does formal ring introductions for the match once both guys are in the ring, almost as if this were a title match. The bell rings and here we go.

Reigns gets in some offense straight out of the gate, but almost immediately, Orton takes over. Orton dominates Reigns for a while but Reigns makes his comeback just as we are led to a mid-match commercial break.

We return from the break and the first thing we see is Orton slamming Reigns’ face into the ring steps outside of the ring, taunting him while he does so. Back in the ring, Orton covers Reigns for a two count. Orton is in firm control of the match now and replays are shown of action that took place during the commercial break that allowed Orton to take control of the contest.

The action spills out to the floor once more, where Orton continues to deliver punishment to Reigns. Orton beats Reigns up a bit outside the ring and then rolls him back in for another near fall. The fans break out into a “let’s go Reigns” chant in Baltimore, however it does no good, as Orton continues to stalk his prey and continues to dominate his larger opposition.

Reigns gets a hope spot, clotheslining Orton down to the mat out of the blue, however seconds later Orton is comfortably back in control of the offense. Orton takes Reigns to the top rope and hits him with a big super-plex for a close near fall. On that note, we head to yet another mid-match commercial. The first commercial took place during Orton’s entrance, then a second early into the match and now a third commercial during one match. Jeez!

When we return from commercial, Orton is still in control of Reigns. Orton is trying to keep his comfortable control in the match, but Reigns looks to be in the early stages of his offensive comeback. Reigns hits a hope spot and both guys are laid out. It looks like Reigns is about to take over and the crowd feels it, as they are stomping their feet and clapping their hands in anticipation of a Roman Reigns beat down of “The Viper” Randy Orton.

Just as I say that, however, Orton catches Reigns coming off the ropes with his trademark snap-bodyslam, which he does with incredible speed and really looks dangerous, as if that move is off by one second, it could result in a potential serious injury to the person on the receiving end. Nevertheless, Orton hits it with flawless precision.

Reigns starts making a comeback again, hitting his running boot-to-the-face from the floor to the apron spot and then follows that up by continuing his attack on Orton inside the ring. Orton, however, once again cuts Reigns’ comeback short and is back in control of the match. This match is turning out to be pretty damn good, and a lot of the credit, if not all of it, belongs to “The Viper.”

Orton hits that dangerous snap-bodyslam again for a close near fall that the announcers sold as the near finish to this match, which as I mentioned, is turning out to be pretty damn excellent. Orton hits his draping-DDT spot on Reigns off the middle rope inside the ring. Orton is going into “Viper” mode, pouncing down on the mat and pounding away, calling for the RKO.

As Orton waits for Reigns to get up to deliver the RKO, he walks right into a Superman punch from Reigns. Now we see Kane, Seth Rollins and a bunch of officials — and I mean like dozens — of officials rushing to the ring. Michael Cole questions who all these officials are. They all reach under the ring for something.

Winner via Disqualification: Roman Reigns
