According to Nigel McGuiness of WWE, The Brian Kendrick will miss two months due to the fractured orbital bone and broken nose he suffered at the hands of Hideo Itami’s finishing move, the Go To Sleep, during Itami’s victory on Monday Night Raw.
Here are some details on the injury from the WWE medical staff:
“During a match between The Brian Kendrick and Hideo Itami, Itami performed the GTS and during that maneuver, Kendrick was struck in the left eye and the inner aspect of the nose,” WWE Senior Ringside Physician Dr. Chris Amann told WWE.com. “A fracture was suspected, and he was taken to a local emergency care facility in Chicago where a CT scan confirmed a diagnosis of an orbital wall fracture and a minimally displaced nasal bridge fracture.”
The orbital wall fracture penetrated the maxillary sinus without muscle or nerve entrapment, Amann explained. At this time, the injury appears nonsurgical.
“We will be following it closely and making sure everything heals appropriately and that surgery’s not needed,” Amann said.
McGuiness gave the update last night on 205 Live, a show that featured another Itami match. In that one, Itami repeatedly yelled, “Respect me” to the crowd, possibly signaling a heel turn similar to when he used those taunts on NXT. He also did not use the GTS on Jack Gallagher, perhaps at the request of WWE to not use the move.
Itami instead used the Rings of Saturn, Neville’s famed submission move, which may be a sign WWE is not close to working out an agreement with the former Cruiserweight Champion to return.
