World League, pool B: long games in Bulgaria

First weekend of the World League finished. Russian team collected all the points in their two matches with Japan. Bulgaria and Germany divided their points.

Russia was the host of those two meetings in Japan. They did not have big problems with beating Japanese players. Their first match was quick and not really emotional. On the next day, guest were very determined and they won the first set 25:21. Russians were surprised and angry about this fact, so they dominated the rest of game and they protected 3 points by winning 3:1.

Raul Lozano has arrived to Bulgaria with his team and he admitted that he was hoping for victory. Two matches between these national teams were really exciting. The spectators in Varna saw two tie-breaks. On Saturday they were disappointed, because Stoychev’s players were defeated by Germans. On the next day, Vladimir Nikolov showed his great form and spiked 25 points for his team. It was also a good performance of Robert Kromm (19 points) and Jochen Shoeps (22 points), but it was not enough for their ambitious rivals.

Radostin Stoychev said on the press conference: “I am happy with the victory mostly because of the players. This was their win and they have shown that they are mature enough to know the responsibility before the nation.”

“They deserved the victory” admitted Raul Lozano. Now Germans are going to Russia and Bulgaria will meet Japan.
