West Ham and Leeds interested in Rennes forward Martin Terrier

L’Équipe report this morning that Rennes striker Martin Terrier is the subject of interest from a number of Premier League sides, notably West Ham and Leeds.

The Frenchman impressed this past season with 21 league goals to help the Bretons finish in fourth place, ending the campaign as Ligue 1’s third highest scorer tied with Lyon’s Moussa Dembélé.

In particular, West Ham’s head scout Rob Newman has been at Rennes’ Roazhon Park numerous times this season to watch both Nayef Aguerd – whose move to London from Brittany is already complete – as well as Terrier.

The Hammers are nevertheless wary of having to pay even more than the €35m bonuses including that they shelled out for the Moroccan defender. Terrier, who is under contract until 2025, is not for sale, and Rennes will not consider any offer below the €40m mark.

Leeds have just sold former Rennes man Raphinha to Barcelona for a €58m fee and should have less of an issue formulating an offer, which is expected soon. The cordial relationship between Rennes sporting director Florian Maurice and Leeds’ Victor Orta should also facilitate a potential move.

Terrier is also one of Liverpool’s targets should Roberto Firmino leave, while Sevilla also hold an interest but have to sell first – Monchi has been a fan of the player since his time at Strasbourg four years ago.
