ATLANTA — Democrat Stacey Abrams said Monday night on Twitter that a White House bid in 2020 is “definitely on the table,” yet another indication that shows just how far the Georgia Democrat’s national profile has risen since her unsuccessful bid for governor last fall. Abrams made the announcement on social media following a Q&A session in which she took part at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas.
Abrams, who unsuccessfully ran for Georgia governor last fall in the nation’s most watched governor’s race, delivered her party’s widely praised rebuttal to President Trump’s state of the union address earlier this month. Abrams has made no secret of her desire to run for political office again, whether it be against U.S. Sen. David Perdue in 2020 or a 2022 gubernatorial campaign against Brian Kemp, who narrowly defeated Abrams last November.
Abrams was seeking to become the nation’s first African-American female governor. After becoming the nation’s first African-American female candidate to earn her party’s nomination for a major statewide office, Abrams made history again as the first black woman to deliver her party’s rebuttal.

Abrams was one of several Democrats featured on the recent cover of TIME Magazine. She also fared well in a Democratic poll which showed her with more name recognition than U.S. Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand, Amy Klobuchar and Sherrod Brown.

Abrams floated the possibility of a White House run in an interview with Cosmopolitan Magazine, in which she said her goals included a possible presidential campaign in 2028.
