Shane McMahon Wins World Cup, Shamrock Returns, Martinez Debuts

One of the most hyped aspects of WWE’s Crown Jewel event was the World Cup tournament. The tournament featured four competitors from Raw and four members of the SmackDown roster all competing in order to determine “the best in the world.” During Crown Jewel, the finals of the tournament came down to Dolph Ziggler and The Miz. However, following an incident which saw the referee declare The Miz unable to compete, SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon decided to take the place of The Miz. In the end, McMahon was able to defeat Ziggler in order to win the World Cup trophy. McMahon celebrated his win after the match concluded, and he also took some photos with the trophy after he arrived backstage. McMahon’s unexpected win will likely factor into the Raw vs. SmackDown format of Survivor Series later this month.

Fans of WWE’s “Attitude Era” may remember seeing Ken Shamrock compete. Shamrock is a legend in the world of MMA who also has experience in pro wrestling, and he is even a former Intercontinental Champion. Shamrock is still active today, and it has just been announced that he will be wrestling again soon in what will be his first official match since 2009. “The World’s Most Dangerous Man” steps back in the ring during a Battle Championship Wrestling event later on this month. The event with Shamrock’s in-ring return will be taking place at the Whitehorse Function & Convention Centre in Melbourne, Australia on November 30th. There is no word on who Ken Shamrock will be facing during the show at this time.

Former Ring of Honor TV titleholder Punishment Martinez was recently signed to WWE and announced as part of the latest Performance Center class. Martinez left ROH last month to report to Orlando, Florida for his NXT duties, and it appears that WWE is wasting little time when it comes to putting Martinez to work. During last night’s NXT live event in Fort Pierce, Florida, Martinez made his official in-ring debut for WWE. He took on Nick Miller of The Mighty. Unfortunately, Martinez was unable to get the win as Miller had some assistance from his tag team partner, Shane Thorne. However, after the match was over, cameras caught up with Punishment Martinez for his thoughts and comments on his first match in NXT.
