For the first time in PWG’s fifteen year history the promotion and its rabid, cult-like fans were “forced” to leave the tiny confines of Reseda.
PWG is notorious for their refusal to expand business in any way, but announced in February that due to a “PayPal error” they had massively oversold their show on 3/23. Rather than issue a ton of refunds and basically do a second attempt at selling the show, they opted to relocate the event to the Globe Theater in Los Angeles.
There’s been a ton of speculation online and from those in attendance Friday night that there was never any “PayPal error” to begin with, and the promotion just needed a good excuse to expand without tipping off their hardcore fanbase. It’s interesting that for a supposed “one-time” deal, PWG obviously spent a great deal of time (and some money) on setting up the event, with big screens, lighting rigs and a drastically improved production setup.
