PSG to create “elite group” of youth players

RMC Sport report this afternoon that Paris Saint-Germain’s new sporting advisor Luis Campos will set up an “elite group” for the club’s best youth players, as a bridge to the first team.

The group will consist of seven to eight players, who on top of sometimes training with the professionals will have a dedicated training session with the first-team staff once a week.

The aim of the project is to allow the manager – whoever that might be next season – to be more familiar with the club’s youth products, in turn giving them more game time and allowing PSG to let go of several older players seen as surplus to requirements.

Playing time has been a key question in the team’s efforts to hold on to their latest crop of young talent, such as Édouard Michut or Xavi Simons.

Ahead of the team’s return to training on July 4, changes will also be taking place in terms of the training ground’s medical staff with the departure of Alexis Savigny. The head of the first team’s medical department Christophe Baudot, who was being targeted by Monaco and a Premier League club, will stay.
