L’Équipe report today that Paris Saint-Germain are set to part ways with virtually every Argentine left at the club, barring Lionel Messi.
Ángel Di María is set to leave this summer, with his contract expiring and the club with no intention of renewing him.
The 34-year-old, who is in his 7th season in Paris, would have liked to stay on but the management sees otherwise. Having been scarcely used in 2022 – just the five appearances – the former Real Madrid man’s time in Ligue 1 appears to be up.
In the case of Mauro Icardi, his public falling-out with wife and agent Wanda made noise both within the club and outside, with many questioning why he was conceded several days off at the time.
The former Inter striker has yet to score in 2022 and has fallen down the pecking order with unimpressive performances. Although he is happy in Paris, the forward is ostensibly one of the players PSG will look to offload this summer.
Leandro Paredes, who arrived in 2019, is a polarising figure in the dressing room, with the South American clan appreciating him but the rest of the players finding him to be something of a watchdog for Messi.
The club opted for him to be operated mid-season in order to avoid putting a potential transfer this summer at risk. He has flattered to deceive in Paris, and Premier League interest could return this summer after Tottenham Hotspur’s enquiry this winter. With the World Cup coming into view, a move away may well be his choice for the sake of game time.
As a result, the club could find themselves with just the one Argentine by next year – a stark contrast to previous years in the QSI era which has seen the likes of Ezequiel Lavezzi, Javier Pastore and Giovanni Lo Celso appear.
