Lyon manager Peter Bosz said that he believed his side deserved to beat Monaco despite their 2-1 defeat at the Stade Louis II on Sunday night.
His opinion was shared by club president Jean-Michel Aulas, who post-match posted screenshots of a WhatsApp conversation with local poet Ismael Billy, which showed the side’s statistical dominance, on social media.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Bosz said, “Normally, if you play like that you get at least a draw, at least. We were beaten by two free-kicks, by the fact we couldn’t convert our big opportunities, especially at the end. I saw a team that played well, with confidence and with a good mentality.”
He continued, “Monaco are a good team, but we played better than them and I don’t think we deserved to lose today.” Lyon have now lost consecutive Ligue 1 fixtures after a positive start to their domestic campaign, and are six points adrift of league leaders PSG.
