AS Monaco are preparing for life without Aurélien Tchouaméni (22) following his reported €100m move to Real Madrid. Sporting director Paul Mitchell told GFFN’s Luke Entwistle that they are looking to replace him with a “similar profile.”

The Englishman said, “We are looking for a similar profile (to Tchouaméni). There are reasons why players go for the price that they do because to replace them like-for-like is very hard. I think there is competition internally with Eliot Matazo (20), with young Soungoutou Magassa (18), and Mamadou Coulibaly (18), who is also a very exciting prospect. Youssouf Fofana (23) also had another excellent season from January through until May and we also have Jean Lucas (23).”
He added, “We’ll be active in the market. We’ll be looking more for a defensive no.6 element, which is what Aurélien gave us. The idea as always is to strengthen the holisitc, the whole squad. We’ve got so much football to play and the squad have come back in great physical condition. We need to make sure that we have a great squad this summer, not just great individuals.”
Lille’s Amadou Onana (20) and Palmeiras’ Danilo (21) have both been linked with replacing Tchouaméni at Monaco.
