Bath have announced that England centre Ollie Lawrence has inked a long-term deal at the club following his Worcester Warriors exit.
Lawrence, 23, has impressed since joining the Rec outfit on a short-term loan deal but has now committed his playing future to Johann van Graan’s troops.
He stood out against Gloucester last weekend but with Worcester Warriors then being relegated from the Premiership, doubts surfaced over his Bath deal.
England centre signs
But those issues have fortunately now been resolved and the player and coaching staff are delighted to have locked in the England centre to fresh terms.
“Ollie made a big impression on me straight away,” said head of rugby Van Graan, who was full of praise for the powerful young centre after his debut.
“On Saturday he gave us good gainline and provided good defensive pressure too. He has lovely footwork, an excellent hand-off and very good rugby IQ.
“I believe he will make a real difference to Bath Rugby in the years to come.”
Lawrence, who has won seven England caps but has been out of favour with head coach Eddie Jones of late, has regularly impressed on the club stage.
He helped Worcester win the Premiership Rugby Cup last season and is set to be a significant fixture in the Bath midfield over the ongoing campaign.
Boost to the pack
Meanwhile, another Warriors player, Fergus Lee-Warner, has also committed to the Recreation Ground side for the rest of the Premiership season.
The Australian, who can play at back-row or lock, sat atop the statistical charts for tackles and offloads after Round Two in a strong start to 2022/23.
The 28-year-old has played for the Western Force in Super Rugby AU and boss Van Graan was also delighted to lock in the forward’s future at the club.
“Fergus is a great guy and has incredible energy,” Van Graan said.
“He is a very versatile player and we’re pleased to have him for the rest of the season.”
More good news on the signing front could follow for Bath supporters as the club confirmed that talks are ongoing with Valeriy Morozov and Ted Hill.
