Rennes have confirmed the signing of the striker M’Baye Niang on a season loan move from Serie A side Torino.
The deal is understood to include an option for Sabri Lamouchi’s side to purchase the French-Senegalese forward.
The 23-year-old spent the full duration of last season on a loan deal at the Italian side- scoring 4 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions – that included an obligation to buy Niang from Milan, the club who his time with was frequently disrupted by injuries and loan moves to Montpellier, Genoa and Watford respectively.
Before Niang’s move to the San Siro, he enjoyed his only previous professional Ligue 1 campaign during the 2011/12 season with Caen, the club where he emerged as a youth product from.
Niang has also emerged as a preferred forward option for Senegal, having played in all three of their three group games at Russia 2018, not least scoring the decisive goal in their 2-1 victory over Poland during the first fixture of Group H.
The French-born forward is expected to compete with Ismaila Sarr and Diafra Sakho for the first team forward berth at Roazhon Park.
