Portuguese international José Fonte has signed a two-year contract with Ligue 1 side Lille OSC.
The 34-year-old moves to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on a free transfer, following the recent mutual termination agreement with Chinese side, DL Yifang who he made just the 7 appearances for, following his January move.
Fonte will bring a wealth of experience to Christophe Galtier’s backline, having amassed 35 caps for his national side in a career that has seen him play for various English and Portuguese clubs including Southampton, West Ham United, Crystal Palace and Vitória de Setúbal.
The 6 ft 3 in centre-back is Lille’s fifth summer signing, following the arrivals of Loic Remy, Zeki Celik, Jonathan Ikoné and Jonathan Bamba.
