St Étienne President Bernard Caiazzo admitted in a press conference in Washington DC this afternoon to promote a new pre-season tournament involving a quartet of Ligue 1 sides, that manager Jean-Louis Gasset would be leaving the club at the end of the season.
The news comes following reporting from every major French outlet that the former assistant to Laurent Blanc had decided to stop at the age of 65 to take a break from football, that will most likely be definitive.
Montpellier had offered Gasset a Technical Director position, but it is understood that the former PSG and France assistant manager has decided to decline this proposal.
The news will come painfully to the ASSE faithful, who have enjoyed a fantastic season that has guaranteed them European football for the 2019/20 campaign, placing 4th in the Ligue 1 table.

It is expected that a number of key players will seek to leave Les Verts as a result of the news, including Yann M’Vila who publicly announced last week that he would quit the club should Gasset go.
