Arsenal FC have announced that striker Alexandre Lacazette (31) will leave the club when his contract ends on June 30th. According to L’Équipe, he is set to return to Lyon on a free transfer.

A press release from the club thanked Lacazette, who joined from Lyon in 2017 and scored 71 goals in 206 appearances for the London side. During his time at Arsenal, he finished as the club’s top scorer in two seasons and was also voted Arsenal Player of the Season in 2018/19. He also won the FA Cup in 2020 and was in the FA Community Shield winning side in 2017.

Speaking in the press release, manager Mikel Arteta said, “Laca has been a fantastic player for us. He’s been a real leader on and off the pitch and has been a very important influence to our younger players. His commitment with us has been exceptional and we wish him and his family success and happiness.”

It is now widely expected that he will rejoin Lyon, where he broke through the ranks before scoring 100 goals in 203 appearances.
