Kevin Shattenkirk has a lot of rings on his mind these days.
Two weeks after he began his pursuit of bringing the Stanley Cup to his home state of New York, the newest Ranger made a pit stop in Barcelona to surprise his girlfriend with an engagement ring.
“Life is made of moments.. Tonight was a moment I will never forget!” Shattenkirk gushed on Instagram. “Here’s to forever.”
The magical moment captured on social media featured the NHL star on one knee in front of the Barcelona Cathedral with his girlfriend, Deanna Abbey, throwing her head back in what was likely a mix of shock and bliss.
Shattenkirk’s engagement capped a fairytale two weeks, which started with him joining the team he rooted for as a kid on a four-year, $26.6 million deal.
The Rangers’ Shattenkirk marriage was mutual, as the Blueshirts had coveted the 28-year-old for a long time in hopes of partnering him with captain Ryan McDonagh on the first defensive pair. The Blueshirts lost out on Shattenkirk at last season’s trade deadline when the Capitals landed him in February from the Blues.
Now, the New Rochelle native is fulfilling a “lifelong dream” with his future wife by his side.
