The 19th-ranked North Dakota State University wrestling team will host a pair of Western Wrestling Conference duals at the Bison Sports Arena this weekend. The Bison take on Wyoming on Friday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m., and conclude the 2013-14 regular season schedule with a dual against South Dakota State on Sunday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m.
The Bison are ranked at an all-time high of No. 19 in the USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll and came in at No. 18 in the Intermat dual team rankings. NDSU comes into this weekend’s set of duals with a perfect 3-0 conference record and will attempt to win its second straight Western Wrestling Conference regular season title. NDSU’s only six dual losses this season are all to teams currently ranked in the top 18 in the nation.
Senior 165-pounder Steven Monk (27-1) continues to lead NDSU in the individual rankings, coming in at No. 3 in both major polls. Monk has won 20 consecutive matches, with his last loss occurring on Nov. 16, 2013, to Cooper Moore of Northern Iowa at the Finn Grinaker Copper Open.
Sophomore 174-pounder Hayden Zillmer is ranked 12th by Intermat and 11th in the latest NCAA Coaches’ Panel Rankings. Junior 184-pounder Kurtis Julson is ranked 18th by Amateur Wrestling News.
