This afternoon, Rennes centre-back Nayef Aguerd has confirmed he will be leaving the Breton club immanently with West Ham about to sign the Moroccan international.
In posting a lengthy message on social media, the 26-year-old defender thanked all those who have influenced his career at Roazhon Park, including current coach Bruno Genesio and his predecessor Julien Stéphan as well as sporting director Florian Maurice, owner François Pinault and the Rennes supporters. Aguerd said:
“It is with much emotion that I announce that I played my last game in black and red at Lille [on the last day of this season]. It was a difficult decision to make, having enjoyed so many wonderful moments here since I arrived at the club in August 2020… I gave everything from the first to the last, in matches and training, on and off the field – and I will always be your biggest supporter. I sincerely wish you all the best.”
Fabrizio Romano reports that the player completed his medical with West Ham in London yesterday with a £30m deal set to be concluded soon with the paperwork sorted and an announcement set for Monday.
