Meghan Trainor’s Boyfriend Learned Sign Language for Her Post-Vocal Surgery

When Meghan Trainor stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday, she had something major to reveal: She had just undergone vocal surgery for the second time. The singer performed “I’m a Lady” on the show, later sharing that it was the first time she had sang since the procedure.

“I was trying not to cry. It was tough,” she told DeGeneres. “I really couldn’t talk since December, so it was like three months of vocal rest, and then we decided, let’s get the surgery before Ellen and then when we recover, it’s going to be tight but you’ll be able to sing on Ellen.”

Trainor first had vocal surgery in 2015, revealing that she was “determined to do what it takes to get better and come back around stronger than ever” in an emotional Instagram post. This time around, the singer had someone special by her side: her new boyfriend, former Spy Kids star Daryl Sabara.

“The real trooper was my boyfriend, because he learned sign language for me so I would spell out words for him, and I’d get frustrated. I’d be like no, wrong! And he would learn. And he just stuck with me through it, so he was great,” she dished.
