L’Équipe report that Ligue 1 side Lyon want to extend their loan deal with Villarreal for Cameroonian forward Karl Toko Ekambi.
The 27-year-old’s loan spell with OL, which has already cost the French side €4m, expires at the end of next month. Les Gones want to extend it until at least the end of August, as they wait for the new dates of this season’s Champions’ League to be formalised.
OL had a €11.5m option to acquire the player in the event that they qualified for the Champions’ League, but they have of course not done so.
For the moment, Lyon and the player are on the same wavelength but nothing is yet decided for next year. Other clubs are interested in Toko Ekambi, but the Cameroonian still gives his priority to joining OL permanently this summer if that is possible.
At the moment, OL have offered a halfway house approach at this stage with this request to extend the loan for 2 months.
