Jurgen Klopp’s Reds head to Wembley looking to continue their 100 per cent start to the Premier League campaign
Can Liverpool continue their perfect start to the Premier League season?
The Reds have made their best opening to a campaign since 1990, winning all four of their games so far. Were they to make it five from five this weekend, Jurgen Klopp’s side would make a serious statement of intent.
In their way stand Tottenham Hotspur, another team with hopes of challenging for major honours this season. Mauricio Pochettino’s men took four points off Liverpool last season, and will be eager to strike another blow to their rivals at Wembley on Saturday.
Originally, this game was to be the first in Spurs’ new stadium, but those plans fell through and so it is off to the national stadium for Klopp and his men, who will hope for better than the 4-1 shelling they took last October.
Here, Goal takes a look at everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s meeting…
Liverpool are still without Dejan Lovren, who is working his way back to fitness after an abdominal injury. The Croatian had hoped to be back in action this weekend, but now looks set for another month on the sidelines. Joe Gomez will continue in his absence.
Simon Mignolet and Adam Lallana picked up injuries on international duty. Mignolet should be fit but Lallana will miss out, another blow to the midfielder who has been blighted by muscle problems over the last 12 months.
Roberto Firmino, Fabinho and Alisson Becker will all be available after a lengthy trip to the USA and El Salvador with Brazil. All three were rested for the El Salvador game, however, and returned to Merseyside on Thursday ready to go.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Rhian Brewster are long-term absentees.
Liverpool do not have any suspended players for this game.
Klopp has made just one change to his starting XI so far, with Jordan Henderson replacing Naby Keita in midfield last time out against Leicester.
It is hard to see too many alterations here, though Keita will fancy his chances of a recall, perhaps at the expense of Henderson or James Milner.
Elsewhere it is likely to be ‘as you were’ for the Reds, with the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Xherdan Shaqiri and, perhaps, Fabinho held back in reserve.
Dele Alli is out due to a muscle injury which forced him to miss England’s friendly win over Switzerland.
Hugo Lloris will also miss the clash, with the Frenchman nursing a thigh problem as well as a driving ban and hefty fine.
Moussa Sissoko and Erik Lamela are also doubts, both suffering with hamstring problems.
The fixture will be broadcast live in the UK (United Kingdom) on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football, kick off 12.30pm BST.
In the United States the game can be watched live on television on NBC Sports, kick off 7.30pm ET.
