Though it had been known for some time that the match was scheduled for the pay-per-view, WWE officially announced on Tuesday that Goldberg would return to the ring to face Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series on November 20th.
Dave Meltzer first reported that the match was set for the PPV.
The match will be the first time Goldberg has wrestled since defeating Lesnar at WrestleMania XX. Their previous encounter received a negative crowd reaction, as it was known beforehand that both men would be leaving the company. Lesnar made his return to WWE in 2012 after a stint as one of the biggest stars in the UFC, and Goldberg returned to Raw two weeks ago to accept Lesnar’s challenge to a match.
The challenge was framed around Lesnar wanting revenge for the WrestleMania loss and the match was built around promotion for the WWE 2K17 video game, which features Lesnar on the cover and Goldberg as a featured playable character. Goldberg indicated that the match would be his last when accepting the challenge that was issued by Lesnar and Paul Heyman.
In addition to Goldberg vs. Lesnar, there will be three traditional Survivor Series elimination tag team matches on the show pitting the best of Raw and SmackDown’s men’s, women’s, and tag team divisions against each other.
Survivor Series will be the second of three straight nights for WWE at the Air Canada Centre, with NXT TakeOver: Toronto and Raw also scheduled for the weekend.
