GEORGIA — The Georgia National Guard will be deployed over the next few weeks to help at both nursing homes and assisted living facilities with cases of the coronavirus. Gov. Brian Kemp and Georgia National Guard Adjutant General Tom Carden will deploy 100 Georgia Guardsmen, reports WSB.
As deaths from coronavirus continue to rise in Georgia, President Donald Trump declared Sunday that a major disaster exists in the state. With it, he ordered federal assistance to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by the coronavirus pandemic beginning on Jan. 20, and continuing.
Additionally, Georgia’s presidential primary may be delayed until June because of the coronavirus pandemic if Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger heeds a request from House Speaker David Ralston.
Numbers released Tuesday at noon show 108 deaths, 818 hospitalized and 3,817 confirmed cases in Georgia.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Fulton County’s 547 cases are the most of any Georgia locality. The next highest totals are 455 in Dougherty County, DeKalb with 325 cases, Cobb with 272 cases, Gwinnett with 233 cases, Bartow with 129 cases and Carroll with 122 cases.
Of those counties, Dougherty has the most deaths in the state with 18.
More than 809,000 COVID-19 cases are confirmed worldwide and more than 39,000 people have died, Johns Hopkins reported Tuesday afternoon. The U.S. has over 165,000 cases, the most of any country as of Tuesday.
Over 3,100 deaths have been tied to the virus in the U.S. New York City has seen the most deaths from coronavirus, with more than 914 people dying from the virus.
