Former PSG manager Thomas Tuchel approached for Aston Villa job

L’Équipe report this afternoon that former Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has been contacted over the vacant Aston Villa job, follow Steven Gerrard’s sacking last week.

The German coach has turned down the chance at an instant return to the Premier League, having been dismissed from Chelsea at the start of the season.

The Villans had tried to win over Tuchel with an attractive financial offer as well as the promise of ambitious spending in the transfer window, in vain. The 49-year-old was also a target of Bayer Leverkusen until the Bundesliga outift opted for Xabi Alonso instead. Other reports have linked another ex-PSG manager to Aston Villa in Mauricio Pochettino, although he too appears unlikely to join.

Tuchel joined Chelsea in January of 2021 shortly after being dismissed from PSG on Christmas Eve, and went on to win the Champions League within his first few months in charge. He was fired after a loss to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.
