St. Charles, Mo. — No. 11 Minnesota State saw five wrestles place at the Joe Parisi Open, hosted by Lindenwood University.
The Mavericks had 19 wrestlers compete, five in the gold bracket, which is open and 14 in the black bracket which is for freshmen and sophomore student-athletes.
Freshman Darick Vancura (Lakefield, Minn.), fresh off of his first place finish at Luther College Open, finished second in the 174 lbs. weight class of the black bracket. Three out of four of his wins were by the fall. Vancura fell in the championship round to Parker Von Egidy (Missouri).

Adam Cooling (Madelia, Minn.) and Bryce Andrews (Truman, Minn.) both placed in the 157 lbs. weight class in the black bracket. Cooling went 3-1 while Andrews went 5-1 before they met in the consolation semi finials. Cooling won by a decision of 3-1 against Andrews, both went on to win their respective matches to place.
Mitchel Hartwig (Winsted, Minn.) and Scott VanDeLoo (Kaukauna, Wis.) each placed fourth in their brackets. The Mavericks have two wrestlers ranked but only one competed. Fifth-ranked Alphonso Vruno (Sandwich, Ill.) lost both of his matches in a tough 141 lbs. weight class in the gold bracket.
The Mavericks will get some time off before traveling to Storm Lake Iowa to wrestling in the Buena Vista Open on December 7th.
