Dave Bautista’s new action comedy Stuber hit theaters this weekend, and while the flick is drawing mixed reactions from critics, it’s clearly hitting home with the average viewer.
The film, directed by Michael Dowse (Goon) based off a screenplay from Tripper Clancy, features Bautista in the role of a hardened Los Angeles detective who enlists the help of a well-meaning Uber driver, played by Kumail Nanjiani, in order to track down the drug lord who murdered his partner.
Stuber is holding steady with a 47% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 135 reviews, although that score has risen significantly over the course of the weekend. Here’s the consensus review:
“Though it makes a strong case for future collaborations between Kumail Nanjiani and Dave Bautista, Stuber fails to mesh its contrasting genres, settling for an overtly violent, mildly entertaining diversion that’s far from a five-star ride.”
On the other hand, the movie is killing it with movie-goers, as it currently has an 81% audience score based on more than 500 verified reviews.
