In a bid to make emergency services more prompt, fourteen states have joined hands to create a pan-India network with a single emergency helpline number ‘112’ and if a person in distress dials it, immediate assistance can be provided to the person concerned, an official said on Thursday.
The Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) is a conglomeration of police (100), fire (101), health (108) and women helpline (1090) numbers to provide emergency services through this single number. The person in distress can either dial 112 from phone or press the power button of one’s smart phone thrice to call the Emergency Response Centre (ERC).
