Club hub: Comeback king Frampton stars for Queensland's Easts

Comeback king Jack Frampton has showed why he’s on the radar of national Sevens coach Tim Walsh with an outstanding effort in Easts’ 26-19 Queensland Premier Rugby win over Sunnybank.

Frampton has had a wretched run with injury, injuring his ankle in an Aussie Sevens trial game in the pre-season before breaking his arm in a trial match in March.

He made his QPR return for the Tigers at fullback last weekend against Norths before moving back to his regular slot at no.10 for the match against Sunnybank, going head-to-head with Dragons captain Tom Lucas.

Frampton scored a try and was one of Easts’ best in the contest for the Rick Tyrrell Cup, a match that celebrates the life of former Easts and Sunnybank player Tyrrell as well as raises awareness of mental health.

In a show of unity, the teams played in the socks of the opposition, with the message to walk in the shoes of one another.

In other matches, defending premiers GPS ended Brothers’ unbeaten run and have the chance to take the competition lead at the halfway mark of the season, now sitting just one point behind the Brethren on the ladder.

Bond University beat Norths 45-10 to celebrate Grant Anderson’s return as head coach after Brad Harris moved to a full-time position with Fiji Rugby.

Bond University 45 – Norths 10

GPS 38 – Brothers 16
