Lenny Dykstra was once known for his quick bat on pennant-winning Mets and Phillies teams. Now he may be just as famous for his teeth.
The Linden resident went dumpster-diving this weekend after apparently taking his $80,000 false teeth out at a Jersey Mike’s “somewhere in New Jersey” and leaving them wrapped in a napkin.
Then they apparently ended up in the dumpster – so he spent much of the night before Father’s Day looking for them.
“I took them out because of the sub. It was a good sub but it was kind of hard,” Dykstra said.
“Nails never fails,” he added. “The teeth will be back.”
Dykstra has fashioned himself as a Twitter star, often chronicling his life, his trips and his opinions while finding a new life in New Jersey.
He has found himself making as much news in off-the-field issues as he did on the field. He’s been sentenced to jail on theft charges and he’s also had issues with drugs.
He was recently cleared of charges that he threatened to kill an Uber driver and the city of Linden accused him of illegally renting rooms at his house. Read more: Ex-Met Lenny Dykstra Illegally Rented NJ Home, Fined $3K: Report
More recently, his former teammate on the 1986 world champion New York Mets, Ron Darling, accused Dykstra of making racist remarks before game three of the World Series. Dykstra and a number of other players denied the claims.
