Troll Brady.
New England Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady sent social media into a frenzy when a photo emerged of Brady touching sports’ greatest trophy, the Stanley Cup.
Philip Pritchard — the man also known as the “Keeper of the Stanley Cup” since 1988 — posted the photo to his Twitter account on Friday afternoon, writing that the five-time Super Bowl champion would love to add the Stanley Cup to his trophy collection.
What’s the big deal? The Stanley Cup changes hands frequently throughout the summer, and celebrities often are seen posing with the mug. But this year’s tour belongs to the Penguins. And Brady and the Pats have tortured Pittsburgh sports fans throughout his career.
Brady’s record against the Steelers is basically flawless: He’s 10-2 all-time against the Steel City, including a pristine 3-0 in the playoffs. Most recently, the Patriots knocked off the Steelers in the AFC championship game in January, 36-17, behind Brady’s 384 passing yards and three touchdowns.
With that rout serving as the last image of the 2016 Steelers season, Pittsburgh fans lost their minds seeing Brady’s left hand caressing the Cup that now belongs to the Penguins, who repeated as champs by defeating the Predators in six games.
So how exactly did Brady get in touch with the Stanley Cup?
Blame Penguins co-owner and billionaire Ron Burkle, who apparently put aside the rivalry and invited Brady to hobnob at his Southern California residence, where the Cup was staying this past week.
