In her latest column in the Calgary Sun, WWE Raw Superstar Natalya wrote an emotional tribute to Roman Reigns and his battle with Leukaemia. Below are some highlights from her column:
The backstage mood during his speech:
“Backstage, our world stood still. We all were watching the monitor and hugging one another, crying and in total disbelief. To me, Roman Reigns was WWE’s version of Superman and he was our locker room leader on Raw. I thought back to how hard he worked to realize his dream to win the Universal Championship from Brock Lesnar and it made me sad to think everything now needed to be put on hold for him to battle this horrible disease.”
Roman inspiring hope:
“And a week later here I am, still thinking about what Roman said and what he is going through. I’m reminded that life is fragile and no one is guaranteed anything. Roman reminded me that we can aspire to inspire others and lead by example. I thought about all of the children I’ve visited who were struggling with cancer who needed a hero and someone to remind them to keep fighting, dreaming and believing.”

I wanted to take a moment to reflect on something that has been on my mind and close to my heart. WWE participates in many outreach programs benefiting cancer research, awareness and support. From “Connor’s Cure” (supporting children with pediatric cancer) created by Stephanie McMahon and her husband Paul Levesque, to our partnership with Make-A-Wish and Susan G. Komen. I am so very proud to do whatever I can do in the fight against cancer with WWE. I have yet to meet a person who hasn’t been affected by cancer in some way, shape or form. Cancer doesn’t discriminate and in WWE, we have made it our mantra that cancer is “unacceptable.”
