The Viper may be preparing to strike at SummerSlam.
This Tuesday on Smackdown Live, Randy Orton made it very clear that he believed himself to be next in line for a WWE Championship opportunity against Kofi Kingston. Unfortunately for him, he was not the only Superstar thinking along those same lines.

While he originally wasn’t too eager about mixing it up with Kingston and the New Day immediately, Orton did ultimately compete against the trio in a six-man tag team match, teaming up with Samoa Joe and Elias.
While nothing has been confirmed at this time, The Viper may have solidified his claim on the WWE Championship by not only winning the match for his team, but actually pinning the champion Kofi Kingston clean in the middle of the ring with an RKO.
For what it’s worth, Orton hasn’t held the WWE Championship in more than two years, since dropping it to the “Modern Day Maharaja” Jinder Mahal at Backlash 2017. He and Kingston haven’t had a proper singles match together in five-and-a-half years.
